Care That Takes Time to Understand You
Living with a long-term illness can mean balancing appointments, treatment and changes to everyday life. When considering acupuncture alongside your existing care, you may want time to explain your experience and discuss what matters to you.
I offer individual consultations in Clifton, Bristol, drawing on Chinese and Japanese medical traditions. We begin with your health history, current care and the reasons you have come to the clinic, then discuss whether an acupuncture plan is appropriate for you.
My Traditional Approach
Traditional Chinese medicine understands health through concepts including Qi, yin and yang, and meridians. I use this framework alongside a discussion of your medical history, sleep, diet, daily routine and emotional well-being.
Pulse reading and gentle abdominal assessment can also form part of the consultation, where appropriate. Within the traditional framework, these observations inform the selection of points and techniques for an individual treatment plan.
There is time to discuss your goals, ask questions and consider the proposed approach. We also discuss the evidence relevant to your concerns and its limitations, so that traditional explanations and researched outcomes are clearly distinguished.
Adapting Your Appointment
My practice includes both inserted-needle acupuncture and non-insertive Toyohari techniques. The approach depends on the plan we agree, your preferences and your circumstances that day.
Please tell me about anything that affects your comfort, such as finding it difficult to lie in one position or needing a pause during the appointment. We can discuss adjustments before beginning, and you can ask to change or stop a session at any time.
At follow-up appointments, we review your experience, any changes in your health and advice from your healthcare team before deciding on the next steps.
Working Alongside Your Healthcare Team
Please discuss acupuncture with the practitioners responsible for your medical care and let me know about your medicines, ongoing treatment and any recent changes. Suitability is assessed individually.
With your consent, I am happy to communicate with your GP or other healthcare practitioners. Acupuncture appointments complement your existing care and do not replace medical assessment, prescribed treatment or specialist advice.
