Soft tissue remedial bodywork

Bowen Technique is based on the work of the Australian therapist Tom Bowen (1916-1982).

It is a soft tissue remedial therapy, with the client lying on a treatment table, that involves highly targeted ‘moves’ over muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia, aiming to stimulate the body’s own mechanisms for re-balancing and healing. A characteristic of Bowen is the ‘wait’. When a dysfuntion is found and treated, a wait of a few minutes is given to allow the body to respond to the stimulus. Bowen can be done over light, loose clothing, and most people find it relaxing.

I follow an assessment led approach which allows me to find and target areas of dysfunction using a set of screening procedures. I have trained with Graham Pennington who first integrated these assessment and targeting procedures into a Bowen treatment, and Phil Stewart on his Assessment Led Bowen Training advanced diploma course. My original training was with BowTech.
