Supporting Your Recovery
The Bowen Technique doesn’t stop working when you leave the clinic. Your body will continue to process the structural changes for several days. To get the best results from your session, I recommend following the “Three W’s” for the first 24–48 hours:
1. Water
Drink plenty of water. Bowen works directly on the fascia (connective tissue), which is highly dependent on hydration. Think of your fascia like a sponge: when it’s hydrated, it’s supple and resilient; when it’s dry, it’s brittle and stiff. Water helps the "reset" moves travel through the tissue more effectively.2. Walking
Avoid sitting for long periods. If you have a desk job or a long commute back from Clifton, try to stand up and walk for a few minutes every hour. Walking helps the brain "map" the new structural alignment we achieved during the session.3. Waiting
Give your body time to respond. For the next 48 hours, I recommend avoiding:- Intense gym workouts or heavy lifting.
- Other physical therapies (like massage or osteopathy).
- Extreme hot or cold baths (showers are fine).
These can “overwrite” the subtle signals we sent to your nervous system during the Bowen session.
Every body is different, but here is a general guide of what to expect
| Timeframe | What is happening? |
|---|---|
| 0–4 Hours | Deep Relaxation: You may feel a sense of "heaviness" or deep calm as your parasympathetic nervous system takes over. |
| 24 Hours | The "Reset" Phase: Minor processing aches are common as your posture shifts and fascia hydrates. |
| Day 3 | Peak Integration: Most patients report a significant drop in acute pain levels. Ensure you are following the "Three W's." |
| Day 5–7 | Structural Setting: This is when the changes typically "set" and we assess the need for follow-up care. |
